I, my parents and two sisters recently went to a three day trip in Palawan, Philppines. Palawan is known for its rich marine life, white sand beaches and the Underground River where I took this photograph. The Underground River in Palawan is the longest underground river in the world which is about 8.5km in length. When we were going into the cave, I remembered feeling I was like venturing into an unknown world, very daunting and intimidating yet exhilarating and thrilling. When I looked at this picture, it does remind me of the same feeling. Darkness and the feeling of watchful eyes of creepy creatures lurking in the dark made me feel really uncomfortable as if any moment, I would be sucked in the dark abyss, devoured by the underground river monster and would never come out of the cave. (Okay, that was a little exaggerated…I just wanted to stress the sense of fear). But as we went further into the cave, enchanting stalagmites and stalactites suddenly caught my attention. Some were even shimmering in the darkness. These washed all my fears away.
In life, all of us go through a tunnel wherein we don’t know what is waiting for us. We tend to worry too much and might think our problems are too massive that we will just be swallowed by them. But if we just widen our perspective, we may see that there is so much more to life that we take for granted. The stalagmites and stalactites in our lives (in my case, my family) will help us get through all the good times and most especially the bad times. And we just have to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And who knows, it might be all greens at the other side.
