The stock world can be a tough market if you don't know your way around it.
Many photographers believe that the stock industry has corrupted their
market, but this is not the case. Times change. You can resist change, or
use it to your advantage. We suggest the latter.
There are a couple things you should keep in mind when submitting your
images to stock archives:
Firstly, be sure that the company your working with has experience in the
industry. There are a lot of wannabe stock houses out there, so don't be
fooled by new services that claim to have an established stock database.
Secondly, make sure you key word and categorize your stock images
effectively so that buyers searching for specific images will find them
through the search engine. Submit images that are original! If you approach
your fine art photography from a unique, creative angle, there is more
likelihood that your images will sell. Browse through any stock-database and
notice how common some images are. Avoid taking generic pictures.
Lastly, don't limit yourself to one stock agency. Royalty free stock sales
can be very effective if you advertise as much as possible. Don't expect
immediate sales! Be patient. If you don't see results right away, it may
simply mean that you're not approaching things from the right angle. Contact
your service and ask them what you can do to increase sales.
