Standard Website

Every photographer needs a website. In today's world, it's a must for any business. The problem is, websites can be expensive to maintain. Anyone can design a site on their own, but it's hard to make it look professional. A quick loading, attractive and functional site is essential. So unless you have studied web-design, it is important to turn to professionals in order to get the job done right. Web design can be very expensive. Many photographers pay thousands of dollars for a professionally designed site. For many of us, this is not an option. If you do have the resources and budget to hire a web designer, here is a guideline that will help you organize your site:

Your website should be divided into at least four sections.

A. Portfolio

It is important that you provide potential clients with a portfolio of your work. Choose your best images. If you need advice, consult our team and we will help you select photographs which are ideal for your sample gallery.

B. About

You should also include a biography of yourself so that clients can identify with you and learn about your history as a photographer.. Remember to SELL YOURSELF! An original and interesting biography will increase the likelihood that clients will hire you to shoot their event or purchase your images.

C. Rates

Remember to list your rates so that clients can compare your prices to those of your competitors. Be competitive, but don't undervalue yourself. If your website is impressive they'll choose you over the competition, even if your rates are slightly higher.

D. Contact

Last and most importantly, you should include your contact information (e-mail address, telephone number, studio location, etc...) so that buyers can reach you to book a session. Naturally, they will want to purchase prints once they've visited your site or after you've shot their event.

We highly recommend that you avoid giving up control over the fulfillment process. Don't give clients a hard-copy of their pictures; set up a price scheme and offer print/product packages through an online service that will provide you with an e-commerce enabled storefront. Handling all orders can be very daunting and bog you down, so working with a service that keeps a small percentage of your profits is ideal. An e-commerce enabled website is a necessary aspect of any photographer's business.
